Numcross and sudoku have been fused together. Does the fusion work, or does it leave a bad taste in your mouth?

Sorry about that, Bryce. A few other folks brought this up and I realized that I erroneously wrote square when in fact A Down is a perfect cube. The puzzle should be solvable without A Down clued at all, but perhaps knowing it is a cube will help check the nearby squares or narrow down some options.

I don't think these clues are clear on what a "square" is. In the first one, J Across must start with 1, but then A Down can't be a perfect square.
In the second, M Across is 789 in some order and C Down is 567, but J Across can't be a square with the remaining digits.
