I have a solution that's missing some symbols:
Upper left: missing V at R2-3C3, missing bar at R4-5C7.
Upper right: missing two V's in the left center block.
Lower right: missing bar at R1C3-4, missing V at R3-4C4.

Thanks for catching and posting those Grant. I've just made corrections by adding the pieces you listed as missing in your second comment.
I hereby give you permission to gloat about how your puzzles are solvable and mine aren't for a full 37 minutes, if you'd like. I'll be waiting on IM. :)

The puzzle is completely solvable without using the total rule. The four corners barely require using any information outside themselves, if at all. (upper left corner required information from outside; I don't think the others did at all.)

Are is there a solution somewhere to this puzzle? I found a way in and everything seemed to be going well, but now ive determined I made a mistake somewhere that isn't self evident, a chain of mistakes must have followed....

Hey Sarah, I don't have the solution for this one posted. I’ll dig it up and post it as soon as I'm able.
Want to use my puzzles in your class? Feel free to do so! I only ask a few things in return:

I'm arriving at contradictions in the upper-left, upper-right, and lower-right corners, all arising from the negative rule (a pair of adjacent cells without a symbol may not have that symbol's property).
